What's FERCAP?

The Forum for Ethical Review Committees in Asia and the Western Pacific Region (FERCAP) was organized as the result of the realization that ethics requires collective wisdom and countries in the Asia Pacific region need to address issues related to human subject protection in biomedical and behavioral research.

FERCAP was conceived at the Ethical Review Workshop in Bangkok on January 12, 2000 after much thought and deliberation among a group of medical experts and bioethicists that included Dr. Juntra Karbwang, Dr.Vichai Chokevivat, Dr. Bryant, Dr. Reider Lee, Dr. Vasantha Muthuswamy and Dr. Francis Crawley. The objective was to foster an improved understanding and better implementation of ethical review of biomedical researches in the region. FERCAP is an organization of researchers and members of Ethical Review Committees who are committed to the protection of human subjects and the promotion of ethics as the cornerstone for research capacity building in the region.
